Vyjádření umělkyně/ce

Although my work may appear relatively diverse, I focus on mapping my personal identity, cultural background, and everyday circumstances. Among my works, you can find sculpture and object interpretations of landscapes and natural elements in relation to their domesticated forms. I find meaning in precise craftsmanship. I like to work with a certain dose of monumentality, either in size or by maintaining a large form in terms of complexity. I am inspired by the philosophy of phenomenology; this may reveal as an invisible thread permeating my work. I feel how the sense of responsibility for the environment enters my lifestyle and values, and how it affects my mood in relation to some excessive impacts of culture. As inspirational from the theoretical background, I can name Václav Cílek, Shunryu Suzuki and Christian Norberg-Schulz. My work may seem specific due to its unpredictability and diversity, but it usually refers to something from everyday life, based on ordinary objects or situations that can with ease speak to the spectators, letting them enter the poetry of my point of view and feel some connection to their own experience without having to rely on a text explanation in the first place. I choose the media to best fit the message. Usually, before I touch any material or media, I plan the final appearance and process completely in my imagination. Sometimes the real process makes me alter or enhance the appearance, but not change the initial concept. I currently have a project in progress, part of which involves working in a 3D program, and I wish to proceed and become more independent in this area. If I were to formulate some dreams, I would be pleased to have a complex solo show in a well-visited gallery or have the opportunity to show abroad. When I have the opportunity to do a project that will be rewarded with attention and interest, it is a great motivation for me. The Chalupecky Award is certainly one of those visible opportunities.

Bio

I'm a sculptor and musician, I live and work in Prague. I graduated from the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design (UMPRUM) in Prague, where I studied at the Studio of Universal Sculpture under the guidance of Prof. Kurt Gebauer. Since 2011 I work as a clay modeling and drawing lecturer at UMPRUM. The works of art I create originate in the perception of my surrounding environment and self-inquiry. I do not limit myself to working in a particular medium or subject, I search for a clear and playful balance between an artwork's message and its visual expression. This often leads me to deal with a wide range of media and materials. My ideas usually become sculpture, photography, computer graphics or video. As an artist, I work with the language of visual forms and therefore industrial and graphic design are also fields of my interest. Besides focusing on visual art, a major part of my life is devoted to music. I have performed in a number of orchestras and music groups, playing the flute, oboe and English horn. Currently I cooperate with the Czech Philharmonic as a lecturer musician in educational programs, moreover experimenting with simultaneous art and improvised music interaction.
